Use Your 3 Mobile’s Unlimited Internet With Your Mac

without comments

If your internet connection suddenly bombs out and you need to get something important done, this might help you out.
Firstly, I’m not sure if this goes against the terms and conditions of 3 mobile, or any other network provider – so it’s best to check!

These are just the few steps you need to get things working in an emergency:

  1. Connect your mobile to your mac with the data cable
  2. Go to System Preferences > Network
  3. Accept the new devices that have appeared, deleting any duplicates.
  4. Click on Advanced
  5. Change the vendor to the manufacturer of your phone
  6. Change Model to GPRS (GSM / 3G)
  7. Change the APN to “three.co.uk”
  8. Click Connect in the Network preference pane, and you should be online!

The connection will also work over Bluetooth, but using the cable will probably be a bit more reliable.

This is quite useful if everything else is dead; I’ve even had 160kbps download speeds!

Treating it gingerly by doing one thing at a time will also help it to stay connected.

Hope this helps!
