Mac OS X 10.5.5 Update
Apple released version 10.5.5 of OS X last night. It weighs in at 136MB and contains a number of changes and fixes. You can read the official article here, but if you don’t fancy trawling through it, then read on for a summary..
The main documented changes appear to be:
- iPhone and PalmOS syncing improvements
- Fixes an issue where Macs could unexpectedly power on at the same time each day
- “Extensive graphics enhancements”
- Improvements to Time machine, it now also backs up iPhone backups
- A number of improvements for the Macbook Air
- Faster Spotlight indexing
- Multiple updates and bug-fixes in Mail, Address Book and iCal
- MobileMe improvements
- Authentication fixes for connecting with Samba servers
There were also some changes that Apple didn’t document, including
- Updated OpenSSH (4.7p1 -> 5.1p1)
- Few new words in Dictionary
- Updated X11 X Window system (2.11 -> 2.15) and utilities
- Unix command updates for printing, network lookup etc.
There don’t appear to be any initial problems with the upgrade, so you’re probably safe to get downloading
