Mac OS X 10.5.5 Update

without comments

Apple released version 10.5.5 of OS X last night. It weighs in at 136MB and contains a number of changes and fixes. You can read the official article here, but if you don’t fancy trawling through it, then read on for a summary..

The main documented changes appear to be:

  • iPhone and PalmOS syncing improvements
  • Fixes an issue where Macs could unexpectedly power on at the same time each day
  • “Extensive graphics enhancements”
  • Improvements to Time machine, it now also backs up iPhone backups
  • A number of improvements for the Macbook Air
  • Faster Spotlight indexing
  • Multiple updates and bug-fixes in Mail, Address Book and iCal
  • MobileMe improvements
  • Authentication fixes for connecting with Samba servers

There were also some changes that Apple didn’t document, including

  • Updated OpenSSH (4.7p1 -> 5.1p1)
  • Few new words in Dictionary
  • Updated X11 X Window system (2.11 -> 2.15) and utilities
  • Unix command updates for printing, network lookup etc.

There don’t appear to be any initial problems with the upgrade, so you’re probably safe to get downloading :)
