How To Fix A Constantly Resetting iPod Classic
Not so long ago I came to use my iPod and it wouldn’t turn on, but instead was stuck in a cycle of resetting itself a couple of seconds after having being started, making a clicking noise as the hard disk turned off. I thought I’d post the fix to help anyone else out who has a similar problem.
- First you need to put the iPod into Disk Mode. To do this, hold down the Play/Pause button and the central select button together for around 5 seconds. You should see confirmation on the screen when it works.
- Start iTunes, and connect the iPod to your computer with the USB cable.
- Select the iPod from the side bar, click Restore and follow the on-screen confirmation messages.
- During the Restore process, a dialog will display a message informing you that the iPod will disappear from iTunes, and reappear shortly. When you see this message, immediately disconnect the iPod from the USB cable.
- The iPod should now appear as it did when you first bought it. Set the Language and Time Zone.
- Press and hold the Play/Pause button to turn the iPod off.
- Connect the iPod to your computer once again with the USB cable.
- Synchronise your music.
Hopefully you’re fixed! I’m not sure what the issue is caused by, but it helps to make sure you always click eject from within iTunes and wait until the iPod is OK to be disconnected before disconnecting it.
Hope this helps!
